Knife Care and Maintenance

Proper care and maintenance will help prolong the life of your knife and performance.

Always keep your knife dry and clean! 

Hand wash with warm soapy water. No abrasive sponges or srcubs .  

Never put your knife in the dishwasher or leave it soaking in water. 

Dry your knife after washing

We recommend careful storage of your knife ie not thrown in a cluttered knife drawer banging off other knives

 

Special Care for Carbon Steel Knives    

Carbon steel knives require a few extra steps to maintain your blade. 

Carbon steel is particularly reactive to high acid products. Therefore, it is imperative that you rinse your blade and wipe it dry after cutting anything acidic, such as citrus, tomatoes, and onions. If not rinsed, the acid will begin to corrode the steel and damage your blade. 

After washing and drying your knife, we recommend oiling it with a food safe, neutral oil,  to protect your blade and encourage a slow and even patina. The oil will act as a barrier to help protect against future exposure to moisture and acids.

Apply a small amount of oil to the blade and rub in a thin layer from spine to edge. Oiling the edge of the knife can help keep your knife sharper longer, however, DO NOT DIRECTLY TOUCH THE EDGE OF YOUR KNIFE WITH YOUR FINGERS. To oil the edge of your knife, apply a small amount of oil to a thick towel and gently run the oiled towel over the edge. Wipe off any excess oil and store.

Returns and Exchanges

We offer an exchange option within 30 days of purchase for a knife purchased, and products should be unused and in their original condition . If we deem a knife has been used and where work is involved to restore knife to original condition , it may still be eligible for return or exchange, but may be subject to a 15% fee deducted from the total return or exchange amount, also Shipping cost may be included in an exchange process to reship and will need to be added to process please contact us for more info dependant on knife purchased and where shipping destination is , damaged knives may not be eligible for exchange or free repair

Refunds can be given within 30 days less the shipping costs if knife is returned in original condition

Products not eligible for exchange or return include, custom orders! unless proof of fault or arranged with Fingal Ferguson knives

We only accept returns and exchanges for products purchased directly from Fingal Ferguson knives . To return a product purchased from another retailer, please contact them for their return policy.

To return or exchange product(s), email info@fingalfergusonknives.com with your name, order email , and reason for the return or exchange, and we’ll contact you with instructions. Please don’t send product(s) for return or exchange without contacting us first. Returns or exchanges sent without prior communication may not be accepted.

We process refunds and exchanges after receiving and inspecting the product(s). Refunds are issued to your original payment method.

All shipping charges are nonrefundable and we are not responsible for the shipping cost of returned and exchanged products. You may request a UPS return label from Fingal Ferguson Knives and the cost of the provided return label will be deducted from the total refund amount. You may also choose to supply your own return shipping label with the carrier of your choice. If providing your own return shipping, please email us the tracking number. We cannot issue a return or exchange for product(s) that are not received by Fingal Ferguson knives

All shipping of knives must be safe and absolutely risk free to courier / shipping service and to also prevent damage to knife / knives

In the unfortunate event that you believe your product has a manufacturing defect, you can send it back to us for inspection anytime. Manufacturing defects do not include normal wear and tear, and we will not repair or replace a product if it has been:

  • misused (for example, used as a screwdriver)

  • neglected to be cared for properly (for example, by putting it in the dishwasher, failing to clean acids off the blade, damaging with chemical cleaners such as bleach, dropped, or leaving it soaking in water)

  • modified from its original design (for example, by drastically changing the blade profile, rehandling, or putting your knife in the oven or freezer)

If you believe there’s a problem with your product, contact us and we’ll do our best to resolve the issue.

Repairs

If your product requires repair, contact us with your name, order email with purchase information and the reason for repair, and a photo of the product or area in need of attention. We’ll determine the best course of action and reach out with solutions and a repair timeline.

Replacement
If it is determined that there is a manufacturing defect with your knife within one year of purchase that cannot be repaired, we will do our best to replace the product. we will gladly exchange for product(s) of equal value or a process similar to mutual agreement
